Data at the speed of life.

As a culture, we want things and we want them now. Perhaps we should blame instant coffee for starting the trend and the internet for exacerbating our need for immediacy. The below infographic, created by OnlineGraduatePrograms.com, illustrates just how deep this “delay intolerance” runs.

People are impatient and demanding; for example, 25% of web surfers will abandon a site if it doesn’t load within four seconds. It seems we live in a world where four mississippis equal an eternity! But what do these statistics mean for business? When every company has competitors and it’s easier than ever for consumers to find alternatives, Instant America’s implications for enterprise mean success for those who can keep up and failure for those who cannot. People’s need for now holds companies’ futures in a tight grasp. It’s as simple as that.

Contrary to this post’s title, there is no cure for impatience. The only solution that will eliminate impatience is to meet the needs, make that the demands, of the consumer. What is it exactly that the consumer is demanding? Essentially, it’s data. Data is behind the website they’re not-so-patiently waiting to load. Data makes up the search results presented by Google, Bing and others. These are the consumer trends that create more data for your company to analyze.

Our world has evolved from instant coffee to instant service, answers and purchases. Companies have only one choice. It’s time to deliver data now.
